All Good Things Must Come to an End

Hello Everyone,

Unfortunately, the 2009 Cowabunga Bay Season has come to an End, and with it, a lot of great memories from this summer! I hope you were all able to visit and experience Cowabunga Bay this past summer and I hope you are looking forward to visiting during the 2010 Season.

This Summer I had to opportunity to work with some Great People and Friends with whom I hope to work with again in 2010. I also had the opportunity to meet and get to know many people who visited the park and I hope to see everyone again next year.

During the slow winter months, I will try to keep you updated on any happenings with Cowabunga Bay, and hope to conduct some off season interviews with some of the Park Staff as they prepare for the 2010 Season. Be sure to look out for some Great Season Pass Savings near Christmas as well.

Have a Great Winter Everyone and I Hope you enjoyed following along with the Construction and Opening of Cowabunga Bay.

Warm Regards,
Sid Vernon

Ready, Set, Cowabunga!

Hello Everyone,

Today's Grand Opening was exciting at Cowabunga Bay! Unfortunately, we opened after 12:00pm and after I started work, so I wasn't able to take photos of the Gates Opening. I did, however, get photos and videos after I got off work just before closing!

Twas the Night Before Opening

Hello Everyone,

Well, it's almost time! Cowabunga Bay opens in just a few short hours! For all of you worrying about the water being cold, Cowabunga Bay's water is heated to 85 degrees, so come take a dip! I took some photos this evening of the progress that has happened in the park and the mad dash to get everything completed by opening. All of the hard work everyone has put into the park is just amazing! It's hard to believe almost 4 months ago Shane Huish took me on the first Construction Tour, when the site was mostly dirt. I would like to thank Sage Harper, Shane Huish, Dave Huish, and everyone else that's part of the Huish and Cowabunga Bay Family for this great oportunity. It's been fantasic covering the construction of the park all of these months. A big thank you also goes out to all of you readers out there. Beginning Tomorrow, the next chapter of Cowabunga Bay begins! Stay Tuned for coverage over the Summer!

Approaching The Finish Line

Hello Everyone,

Cowabunga Bay has officially announced their Opening Day as Friday, June 12, 2009, so mark your calendars! Things down at the Cowabunga Bay Construction Site change Daily, with Opening Day getting Closer.

Last week, Cowabunga Bay tested the Yellow Giant Tipping Bucket. All I can say is WOW! Both of those Buckets Dumping will definitely be a sight to see! Roofs on the Restroom and Administration Buildings has gone up and interior work has begun. The last of the Scenery Elements for the Giant RainFortress are being put in Place and Cowabunga River is just about Complete!

The Big Splash

Hello Everyone,

Work down at the Cowabunga Bay Construction Site is at Full Throttle with Opening Day just weeks away! More Signs and Theme Items have been added to the Giant RainFortress, More Concrete has been Poured, Perimeter Fencing is going Up, and the Roof Trusses on the Restroom Building are in place. The most exciting news I have to share is that Today, Cowabunga Bay turned on the Water to the 1,200 Gallon Giant Tipping Bucket and gave it a Test Run! Thanks to Shane, from Cowabunga Bay, for the Photos! I Can't believe how fast things are coming together with just weeks before opening!

It's beginning to look like a Water Park

Hello Everyone,

It's been a busy week down at Cowabunga Bay. Between Interviews, Concrete Pours, Vertical Construction, and more, Cowabunga Bay is finally beginning to look like a Water Park! This week the Employment Operations Office/Trailer was busy with Interviews for all of the Positions for the Park. Out on the Construction Site, workers were busy pouring Concrete, starting Landscaping, Finishing Slide Installation, Putting up Walls for the Restroom and Administration Buildings, and putting more and more Scenery Items on the Giant RainFortress. I took a whole lot of Photos on Friday of tons of stuff around the site including the Giant RainFortress, Slides, Scenery Items, Administration Building, Pump House, Restroom Building, Cowabunga River, and more! I can't believe we will be open in just a few short weeks, I can't Wait!

You're Hired!

Hello Everyone,

I'm excited to announce that today, I was hired by Cowabunga Bay! Thank You to Shane Huish, Dave Huish, and Sage Harper for this Awesome and Exciting Opportunity! I will only be working in the Employment Operations Office for now, but I'll be able to look out the window and watch the work on Cowabunga Bay finish up!

Today was crazy at the Construction Site. There was so much going on from Pouring Concrete, Construction on the Administration and Restroom Buildings, to Lifting a Large Section of the Southern Most part of the Giant RainFortress. Unfortunately I wasn't able to wait to watch the Giant Tiki Statue be placed, but thanks to Shane, I have some to share, and it looks awesome! The Smaller of the Two Giant Tipping Buckets is now in place and more of the Custom Giant RainFortress has been moved into position on the splash pad. The Structure just keeps getting more massive every time I see it! It's hard to believe with all of the construction, that in about a month or so, the park will be open and operating!

Some people have wondered why Cowabunga Bay is offering 4 Hour Admission. This is a simple answer, Capacity. Cowabunga Bay wants to keep the Lines Down! Every other water park I've been to in Utah has included waiting in Lines. If you purchase 4 Hour Admission, you will have 4 Hours to experience Cowabunga Bay's Giant RainFortress, All 9 Slides, and Cowabunga River. Cowabunga Bay will also limit the amount of 4 Hour Tickets Sold each Hour to limit the amount of people in the park at one time, reducing the risk of Lines. Therefore, there will be people exiting at the end of each hour while at the same time more people enter the park to enjoy the many attractions. After your 4 Hours are over, you will not be permitted to enter any of the attractions, but you can still enjoy the park as long as you want.

The Cat is Out of the Bag!

From Cowabunga Bay Construction Update 04/20/2009

Thanks to KSL-TV, the cat is out of the bag! The new CowabungaBay.com is Live and Employment Information has been posted!

KSL-TV Reporter Alex Cabrero reported on Cowabunga Bay this afternoon, however, he made several mistakes in his Report. The KSL-TV Reporter stated, "A water play structure is different from a water park. It's much smaller and all combined into one structure, instead of spread out over several acres." The Giant Water Play Structure Combines Several Traditional Water Park Attractions and Stacks it on top of Each other into one large compact footprint. He also makes no mention of the Lazy River, Cowabunga River. The KSL-TV Reporter also said, "Then, there's this splash bucket, which every five minutes will fill up and dump some 2,000 gallons of water on people below. Huish says that, too, is the world's biggest." The Largest of the Two Giant Tipping Buckets holds only 1,200 Gallons and will dump every 5-7 Minutes. You can read the Story and Comment on the story on KSL.com by clicking HERE!

The New CowabungaBay.com has gone live and Includes all of the Information you have been waiting for including Admission Prices, Season Pass Pricing, Brithday Parties, and Employment. Cowabunga Bay has also released their Contact Information. Cowabunga Bay can be Contacted by Calling 801.553.1000 or E-mailing them at info@cowabungabay.com

Hello Everyone,

It's been a busy weekend down at the Cowabunga Bay Construction Site! I took some photos on Saturday & Sunday while Shane, from Cowabunga Bay, sent me some Photos of most of Progress that was made today. With all the excitement growing, and more and more cars driving around looking at Cowabunga Bay, I just wanted to remind everyone that Cowabunga Bay is an Active Construction site and not to Tresspass! There is a Construction Fence there for a Reason.....Your Safety! Now, Onto the Details....

Shane, from Cowabunga Bay, wanted me to thank everyone for their Comments and Suggestions concerning the Prices I posted last week. All of the Feedback has been taken into Consideration for when the Final Prices are posted on CowabungaBay.com and the Cowabunga Bay Construction Blog.

I have recieved many e-mails from people inquiring about Employment Oportunities at Cowabunga Bay and I'm happy to report that the Employment Office Trailer has been delivered to the Construction Site. I will post any and all information regarding Employment, Including the Employment Phone Number, as soon as Shane gives me the go ahead. Keep and eye on the Cowabunga Bay Construction Blog and CowabungaBay.com for that Information, which will be posted soon.

Saturday -
I stopped by the Construction Site on Saturday afternoon to see what progress had been made during the week and was excited to find the construction crew installing sections of Bombora! However, while I was there, the Construction Crew ran into an alignment problem with Bombora that will be worked out in the coming days.

Sunday -
I stopped by the Construction Site on Sunday evening, and found Bombora completed and all of Bonzai finished except the drop and shut down lane.

Monday -
Shane sent me some photos of all the progress that was made today! Shane told me that Bonzai was the First Slide Completed (Slide Entry to Shut Down Lane) at Cowabunga Bay! Bombora is Completed, except for the alignment problem. Hang Ten (Green Slide), Hang Five (Blue Slide), Gremlin (Purple Slide), and Mondo (Magenta Slide) are nearly complete and will be finished by the end of the Week!

Cowabunga Bay Construction Update 03/14/2009

Hey Everyone,

I'm sorry this update has taken so long to post, but I promise it won't disappoint. Since the last Construction Update 2 weeks ago, all of the Slides have been pre assembled and more and more Steel Structural Components for the Giant Water Play Structure have arrived at the Construction Site. The Construction Crew has also Covered the Drainage System for the Site and Layed and Covered Pipe for the Water Drains and Water Supply Lines for the Giant Water Play Structure. It looks like Footers for the Giant Water Play Structure are and Construction on the Lazy River are next.

Last Friday, Mike, from CoasterNews.net posted a Construction Update on his website that can be viewed by clicking HERE!

Now, onto reader questions. Many of our Readers have been asking about Employment Opportunities at Cowabunga Bay. Right Now, Cowabunga Bay isn't doing any Hiring but as soon as they are, it will be posted on the Blog. We also recieved a question regarding help with a fund raising Event at a Local School. I am waiting for an answer from Cowabunga Bay as to what Contact Information, if any, I can give out at this time. In the mean time, you can now join Cowabunga's Surfari Club at Cowabungabay.com.

Cowabunga Bay Construction Update 03/04/2009

Hey Everyone! I was down in Draper today, and figured I'd stop by the Cowabunga Bay Construction Site and see what was going on. Those of you in Utah know the High Winds we've had Lately and some of the resulting Wind Damage. Unfortunately, the Shelter Cowabunga Bay had built over the Slide Assembly Area was destroyed in the High Winds. Technicians have made quite a bit of Progress on the Body Slides and most Slide Sections of Banzai, Mondo, and Bombora have been Assembled as well as part of the Run Out for Banzai or Mondo. It also appears that Maeday is mostly Completed. Besides some PVC Pipe and an old beat up VW Bug, that's all that's new at the site. Summer just can't get here soon enough!

Cowabunga Bay Construction Tour 02/28/2009

This Morning I was invited down to the Cowabunga Bay Construction Site for a Tour, hosted by the Park's Developer, Shane Huish. There's not a Whole Lot to see, except for everything that will be buried. Most of the Slide Sections have been Delivered to the Construction Site with about 20 Truck Loads more of Components for the Giant Water Play Structure, and a Few Slide Parts, which are due to Arrive in the Coming Month. I Would like to again Thank Shane Huish for taking the time to Give the Tour and Answer the Many Questions we asked. We look forward to another Construction Tour in about a month. If any of our readers have any Questions or Comments concerning Cowabunga Bay, feel free to leave a Comment. There are also Forum Discussions about Cowabunga Bay on LagoonisFun.com and ThemeParkReview.com. Now, Onto the Updates and Photos!

Balance Tank and Pump House -
The Walls for the Underground Balance Tank for the Giant Water Play Structure are still setting and the Floor for the Pump House is Complete. The Next Step will be to Pour the Roof of the Balance Tank and Walls for the Pump House. Shane explained the Filtration Process for the Water Collected in the 125,000 Gallon Balance Tank which will be Filtered and Zapped by the UV Filtration System Twice before being pumped back to the Water Play Structure. The Water will turn over approximately every 29 Minutes.

The Giant Play Structure -
The area has been graded and Footer Layout for the Structure will begin Next Week. The Smaller Water Bucket, at 40ft in the air, will Dump facing North East onto a Roof. The Large 1,200 Gallon Water Bucket, at 60ft in the air, will Dump facing South West and I-15 and fall 40ft before the water hits a roof, creating the World's Biggest Splash! Another great feature of the area under the Water Play Structure is that ALL Water will Completely Drain off the Splash Pad and into the Balance Tank thanks to 25 Drains. Most other Water Play Structures have 18 Inches of water covering the Splash Pad that causes Safety Concerns.

The Slides -
Shane revealed the names of all 9 Slides on the Water Play Structure. The Names are listed by Slide Type Below.

Body Slides
Bonzai - Red, Orange, & Yellow Slide (Custom Designed for Cowabunga Bay)
Mondo - Red, Orange, & Yellow Slide (Custom Designed for Cowabunga Bay)
Bombora - Magenta Slide

Open Flume Slides
Hang 10 - Green Slide
Hang 5 - Blue Slide
Gremlin - Purple Slide

Kid Slides
Maeday - Pink Slide
Double Doggers - Yellow Racing Slide

The Lazy River -
Shane explained the Theme of the Lazy River as a "Route 66/Surfing Safari" Theme with several theme elements like a Life Guard Tower that will shoot water. The other Main Theme Element I will keep Secret for now, which will certainly bug you, but man it's GREAT!

Kid's Pool -
Unfortunately, the Kid's Pool will not be completed for 2009, but will open in 2010 instead.

Future Attractions -
Shane Confirmed that the Bowl Slide will be added to the Water Play Structure and a Mat Racer & Flowrider are in the works. It's interesting to note that Cowabunga Bay will be able to Modify the Design of the Slides on the Water Play Structure to change things up as well.

Cowabunga Bay Construction Update 02/21/2009

Today was the first time I've dropped by the Cowabunga Bay Construction Site since ground was broken. There's not a whole lot to look at, just some heavy construction equipment, slides, and Dirt. It also looks like some of the actual Structural Components for the Water Play Structure are beginning to Arrive and a Large Pit for the Surge Tank or Pumps has been Dug.
