Cowabunga Bay Construction Tour 02/28/2009

This Morning I was invited down to the Cowabunga Bay Construction Site for a Tour, hosted by the Park's Developer, Shane Huish. There's not a Whole Lot to see, except for everything that will be buried. Most of the Slide Sections have been Delivered to the Construction Site with about 20 Truck Loads more of Components for the Giant Water Play Structure, and a Few Slide Parts, which are due to Arrive in the Coming Month. I Would like to again Thank Shane Huish for taking the time to Give the Tour and Answer the Many Questions we asked. We look forward to another Construction Tour in about a month. If any of our readers have any Questions or Comments concerning Cowabunga Bay, feel free to leave a Comment. There are also Forum Discussions about Cowabunga Bay on LagoonisFun.com and ThemeParkReview.com. Now, Onto the Updates and Photos!

Balance Tank and Pump House -
The Walls for the Underground Balance Tank for the Giant Water Play Structure are still setting and the Floor for the Pump House is Complete. The Next Step will be to Pour the Roof of the Balance Tank and Walls for the Pump House. Shane explained the Filtration Process for the Water Collected in the 125,000 Gallon Balance Tank which will be Filtered and Zapped by the UV Filtration System Twice before being pumped back to the Water Play Structure. The Water will turn over approximately every 29 Minutes.

The Giant Play Structure -
The area has been graded and Footer Layout for the Structure will begin Next Week. The Smaller Water Bucket, at 40ft in the air, will Dump facing North East onto a Roof. The Large 1,200 Gallon Water Bucket, at 60ft in the air, will Dump facing South West and I-15 and fall 40ft before the water hits a roof, creating the World's Biggest Splash! Another great feature of the area under the Water Play Structure is that ALL Water will Completely Drain off the Splash Pad and into the Balance Tank thanks to 25 Drains. Most other Water Play Structures have 18 Inches of water covering the Splash Pad that causes Safety Concerns.

The Slides -
Shane revealed the names of all 9 Slides on the Water Play Structure. The Names are listed by Slide Type Below.

Body Slides
Bonzai - Red, Orange, & Yellow Slide (Custom Designed for Cowabunga Bay)
Mondo - Red, Orange, & Yellow Slide (Custom Designed for Cowabunga Bay)
Bombora - Magenta Slide

Open Flume Slides
Hang 10 - Green Slide
Hang 5 - Blue Slide
Gremlin - Purple Slide

Kid Slides
Maeday - Pink Slide
Double Doggers - Yellow Racing Slide

The Lazy River -
Shane explained the Theme of the Lazy River as a "Route 66/Surfing Safari" Theme with several theme elements like a Life Guard Tower that will shoot water. The other Main Theme Element I will keep Secret for now, which will certainly bug you, but man it's GREAT!

Kid's Pool -
Unfortunately, the Kid's Pool will not be completed for 2009, but will open in 2010 instead.

Future Attractions -
Shane Confirmed that the Bowl Slide will be added to the Water Play Structure and a Mat Racer & Flowrider are in the works. It's interesting to note that Cowabunga Bay will be able to Modify the Design of the Slides on the Water Play Structure to change things up as well.
